How To Plot a Ziwei Doushu Chart​

• Identify the Decade’s Cycle

To arrange the cycle of decade, you always start in the Self sector as the first decade, then rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise. The rules are as follows:

Decade’s Cycle Table

A decade is 10 years, for the start of calculating the age can vary, some start at the age of 2 years but some just start at the age of 6 years. Please note that the concept of a person’s age in Chinese astrology is calculated since he is still in his mother’s womb and not calculated when he is born, therefore when a person is born, his age is actually considered 1 year old.

To find out at what age you start the calculation of the current decade, please refer to point no. 4) Arrange the position of the 5 elements to determine the position of Ziwei, by looking at the 5 elements Form Table. When you know which element group you belong to, the basis for calculating the start of the decade is to see which group you belong to, which is as follows:

• Water II : age 2 – 11 years.
• Wood III : age 3 – 12 years.
• Metal IV : age 4 – 13 years.
• Soil V : age 5 – 14 years.
• Fire VI : age 6 – 15 years.

As an example of the above case:

Lunar calendar: Male, 11th day, 2nd Lunar month, Wu Shen (戊申) year or Earth Monkey year, Tiger hour (Yin 寅).

This man was born in the year of Wu Shen (戊申), which in the 5 elements form table falls in the Metal IV group. So, the first decade in the Self sector is from 4 – 13 years old. What about the cycle of the decade? Is it clockwise or counterclockwise? Since this is a Male born in the year Wu 戊, looking at the Decade’s Cycle Table above, it is clockwise. However, for example, if the gender is Female born in the year Wu 戊 then the decade rotation will automatically be counterclockwise.

What about the second, third, fourth decade and so on? It’s simple, you just need to sort the beginning and end of the first decade plus 10 years, for example the first decade in the example above is age 4 – 13 years, then the second decade (clockwise) is age 14 – 23 years (in the Parents sector), the third decade is age 24 – 33 years (in the Mental sector), the fourth decade is age 34 – 43 (in the Property sector), the fifth decade is age 44 – 53 (in the Career sector), the sixth decade is age 54 – 63 (in the Friends sector), the seventh decade is age 64 – 73 (in the Abroad sector) and so on.

If this is a woman, the decade rotation will be counterclockwise so that the second decade is age 14 – 23 (in the Siblings sector), the third decade is age 24 – 33 (in the Spouse sector), the fourth decade is age 34 – 43 (in the Children sector), the fifth decade is age 44 – 53 (in the Wealth sector), the sixth decade is age 54 – 63 (in the Health sector), the seventh decade is age 64 – 73 (in the Abroad sector) and so on.
